A couple of $1 babies:

I’ve always had a problem with masking. I have my own fandangled, convoluted way of doing it, that involves layers, selections, copying, pasting, deleting. I really must take some time to see how others go about it. Here and here.

Monday Musing 2/23/2009

What keeps us scrapping? The inspirational layouts we see? The beautiful product that is available? The knowledge we produce heirlooms? The process of creating something valuable to us?

All of the above. Over and over again.

Move over 12″ by 12″ layouts! The trend is moving toward smaller album projects. Probably because they are economical, can be carried about and make great gifts. The small format should mean less time making them, but, alas, that is not the case for me - I am slow at layouts, no matter how small.

Also, companies are making shaped albums now, lots of different interesting things to play with.

Whatever, in these troubled times, most of us have to watch our belts. We’re pretty lucky that way in digiland - so many high quality freebies abound. I think that is a trend that will continue.

I reckon hybrid will continue to rise in its popularity for its personal and environmental qualities. Personal being choosing what to print and how its applied to the page or project. Environmental being that people are being encouraged to recycle and reuse packaging etc.

Anyway, home made is the best.

Tuesday Tutorial 2/17/2009

This one is for those that like the art journal style, those who want a more artsy look and those that just want to try something new. There are different ways to turn your photos into sketches, this is one of them. (Photoshop & Corel).  I tried it and loved it. This is what I came up with:

http://scrappystation.net/minasplace/2009/feb/darcyColor1.jpg

Once you’ve got it to this stage (very easy), print out and colour or paint. Get the kids/grandkids to do it. Just have fun. Cut and paste to your journal/scrapbook/anything. Maybe you like it as is. I played about a bit in Photoshop:

Don’t know what I’ll do with it, but it is definitely a technique I’ll be using in the future. If you try this, please let me know how you went.

All for now, Mina :)
